🐇 3. Prey Model Raw (PMR)
✳️ What It Is:
The most "naturalistic" raw feeding method, PMR attempts to replicate whole prey animals—fur, feathers, organs, and all. It typically excludes all plant foods and looks like this:
80% Muscle Meat
10% Raw Bone
5% Liver
5% Other Secreting Organ
Some advanced PMR feeders include:
Whole prey (quail, rabbit, fish)
Feathers, fur, or hide for fiber
Trachea, gullet, tendons, or green tripe for joint and gut health
There are delivery services available that offer Prey Model Raw feeding options. Many people feed this an only this to their dogs. Most dogs thrive on this — but it may not be appropriate for all dogs or dogs with chronic health issues.
✅ Benefits:
Excellent for dogs with food sensitivities, yeast issues, or autoimmune disease—eliminates plant antinutrients.
Supports a very low carbohydrate profile, which can help starve cancer cells and reduce inflammation.
May benefit dogs with leaky gut, SIBO, or dysbiosis, especially when plant matter aggravates symptoms.
⚠️ Cautions:
Micronutrient deficiencies are common over time (especially iodine, vitamin E, manganese, zinc).
Lack of fiber can impact gut health and stool quality unless using fur-on prey or fiber supplements.
May not provide enough vitamin D unless whole fish are fed regularly.
Risk of over- or underfeeding bone if you're not weighing meals.
🛠️ How to Balance:
Include fur-on rabbit ears, feathers, or psyllium husk for fiber support.
Feed whole oily fish or fish oil weekly for EPA/DHA and vitamin D.
Use freeze-dried mussels, oysters, or zinc supplements for trace minerals.
Rotate through a wide variety of animals, including ruminants, poultry, fish, and game.
Use a fermented product if fiber is chronically lacking.
Consider strategic additions of kelp, algae, or marine phytoplankton for iodine and antioxidants..
