MediHerb Herbal Formulas for Dogs
MediHerb is one of the professional herbal lines I use when I want something more targeted and consistent than simply adding a little dried herb to a dog's bowl.
MediHerb makes concentrated and standardized botanical formulas with a strong emphasis on plant identification, extraction methods, active constituents and quality control. The company was founded in Australia by herbalist Professor Kerry Bone and is now part of the Standard Process family.
I access MediHerb through my Standard Process practitioner account, which means the products I recommend can be ordered through the same practitioner system I use for Standard Process supplements.

These are professional practitioner herbal formulas. I use selected MediHerb products with dogs when the ingredients, medications, health history and individual dog make them appropriate.

Herbs are not automatically interchangeable just because two bottles contain the same plant name.
The correct species matters. The part of the plant matters. Extraction matters. Concentration matters. Standardization matters.
If I am using an herb as a targeted wellness tool rather than adding a little parsley, ginger or turmeric as food, I want to know what I am actually working with.
MediHerb puts substantial emphasis on botanical identity and consistent concentrations of important plant constituents. That gives me another level of precision when I am deciding whether an herbal formula belongs in a dog's plan.
MediHerb for Joints, Arthritis & Mobility
Boswellia Complex
Boswellia Complex combines Boswellia, celery seed, ginger and turmeric to support healthy joints, circulation and normal inflammatory processes.
This is one of the MediHerb formulas I may consider when stiffness, arthritis or chronic musculoskeletal discomfort is part of the dog's picture.

A concentrated turmeric formula designed to provide standardized turmeric constituents rather than relying on an unpredictable amount of kitchen spice.
I may look at turmeric when supporting normal inflammatory processes, mobility, antioxidant defenses, liver function and general cellular health.
Grocery-store turmeric can absolutely be food. It simply is not identical to a standardized therapeutic herbal extract.Saligesic
A MediHerb musculoskeletal formula traditionally used to support temporary discomfort and normal movement.
I may consider it alongside other joint and mobility support when an herbal approach makes sense for the individual dog.
Herbs with salicylate-like constituents require extra thought when a dog is also receiving NSAIDs, steroids, anticoagulants or other medications.Nervagesic
A botanical formula used to support relaxation and the nervous system, particularly when muscular tension or occasional discomfort is part of the picture.
This can overlap with mobility work because pain, muscle guarding and nervous-system tension often travel together.
MediHerb for Liver & Antioxidant Support
Milk Thistle Forte
A concentrated milk thistle seed formula standardized for flavanolignans, the group of compounds commonly referred to as silymarin.
Milk thistle is one of the herbs I use most often when I want antioxidant and nutritional support for normal liver function and liver structure.

LivCo combines schisandra, rosemary and milk thistle to support normal liver function, cellular health and the body's normal elimination processes.
I may choose LivCo when I want a broader multi-herb liver formula rather than milk thistle alone.
Vitanox®
Vitanox combines rosemary, green tea, turmeric and grape seed.
It is formulated to support antioxidant defenses, healthy circulation, connective tissue, liver function and cellular health.
Antioxidant support may become relevant in senior dogs, chronic health challenges, environmental exposures and situations involving increased oxidative stress.Rehmannia Complex
A multi-herb formula centered around rehmannia and traditionally used for general whole-body and detoxification support.
Rehmannia is also an herb we encounter frequently in Chinese herbal medicine, which makes this an interesting bridge between Western practitioner herbalism and some TCVM concepts.
MediHerb for Stress, Relaxation & Nervous-System Support
Ashwagandha Forte
A standardized ashwagandha formula traditionally used as an adaptogenic and restorative herb.
I may consider ashwagandha when supporting resilience during stress, nervous-system function, cognition and general well-being.
Thyroid disease and thyroid medication matter here. Ashwagandha is not something I automatically add to every anxious dog.Rhodiola & Ginseng Complex
An adaptogenic herbal combination used to support vitality, stamina and a healthy response to physical and environmental stress.
This is different from simply trying to sedate a stressed dog. Sometimes the goal is supporting resilience and recovery.
Valerian Complex
A calming herbal combination traditionally used to support relaxation, nervous-system balance and healthy sleep.
I may consider a formula like this when a dog has difficulty settling, but first I want to know why.
Pain, canine cognitive dysfunction, GI discomfort, medications and anxiety can all look like "restlessness," especially at night.MediHerb for Gut & Digestive Support
DiGest Forte
A concentrated digestive herbal formula built around traditional bitter and digestive botanicals.
It is designed to support digestive secretions, gastrointestinal tone, appetite and normal digestive function.
Digestive bitters are not appropriate for every digestive problem. Reflux, ulceration, gallbladder issues and medications can change the decision.Gut Flora Complex
A professional herbal combination designed to support a healthy intestinal environment and normal bowel function.
This may be one tool in a broader gut plan, but I do not use herbs as a substitute for looking at food, digestion, stool patterns and the microbiome.
Berberine Active
Berberine Active uses standardized Phellodendron extract providing berberine.
It is traditionally used to support healthy bowel function, the intestinal environment, liver function and antioxidant activity.
Berberine can also influence glucose metabolism and medication response, so I do not treat this as a casual "gut supplement."MediHerb for Adrenal, Thyroid & Metabolic Support
Adrenal Complex
Adrenal Complex combines licorice and rehmannia and is formulated to support normal adrenal function and the body's response to stress.
This is a practitioner formula where the dog's entire health picture matters.
Licorice can affect blood pressure, potassium and fluid balance and may interact with medications. Cardiac and endocrine history matter.Thyroid Complex
A targeted herbal formula intended to support normal thyroid function and metabolism.
This is not something I select because one thyroid value came back low.
Thyroid diagnosis, iodine intake, autoimmune thyroid disease and thyroid medication all need to be considered first.Gymnema
Gymnema is traditionally associated with healthy glucose metabolism and metabolic function.
I may consider it when metabolic health is part of the bigger picture, but a dog receiving insulin or other glucose-lowering medication needs much more careful oversight.
MediHerb for Immune Support
Echinacea Premium®
A concentrated echinacea formula designed to support normal immune-system function.
Echinacea can be a useful short-term immune-support herb, but immune support does not mean indiscriminately "stimulating" the immune system in every dog.
Autoimmune disease, immunosuppressive medications and the reason for immune support all deserve consideration.MediHerb for Bladder & Urinary Support
Cranberry Complex
Cranberry Complex combines cranberry, crataeva, buchu and uva ursi to support normal bladder and urinary-tract function.
I may consider urinary herbs when they match the actual problem, but urinary symptoms alone do not tell us which formula a dog needs.
Important: MediHerb lists kidney disease as a contraindication for Cranberry Complex. A UTI, bladder inflammation, crystals, stones and kidney disease are not interchangeable problems.Why I Don't Choose Herbs by Diagnosis Alone
Herbs are powerful enough to be useful. That also means they are powerful enough to be chosen badly.
"My dog has arthritis, give turmeric" or "my dog's liver enzymes are elevated, give milk thistle" may be a reasonable place to begin thinking. It is not always the complete answer.
Before choosing a concentrated herbal product, I may look at:
- the dog's medications
- kidney and liver function
- blood pressure and cardiac history
- bleeding risk
- blood glucose and insulin use
- thyroid medication and thyroid diagnosis
- GI irritation, reflux or ulcer history
- gallbladder concerns
- other herbs and supplements already being used
- whether support is intended to be short-term or ongoing
- what we are actually trying to accomplish
Sometimes MediHerb is the right tool. Sometimes I would rather use food, a veterinary formula, a TCVM formula, a single herb, homeopathy, nutritional support or another modality entirely.
MediHerb for Arthritis Isn't the Whole Mobility Plan
Boswellia, turmeric and other anti-inflammatory herbs can be excellent tools, but I do not want a dog's entire mobility program to become a handful of supplements.
I also look at body weight, muscle preservation, protein intake, omega-3 fatty acids, appropriate movement, footing, rehabilitation, massage, pain management and modalities such as PEMF.
Especially in a senior dog, maintaining muscle may be every bit as important as choosing a joint supplement.
Milk Thistle vs. LivCo: They Are Not the Same Thing
This is a good example of why having access to a broader herbal line is useful.
Milk Thistle Forte gives me a concentrated single-herb option when milk thistle itself is what I want.
LivCo combines milk thistle with schisandra and rosemary when I want broader herbal support for the liver, antioxidant systems and normal detoxification processes.
Neither one automatically fixes elevated liver enzymes. We still need to ask why the liver values changed in the first place.
Herbs Are Only One Part of Gut Health
A dog with diarrhea, reflux, chronic gas, loose stool or IBD-type symptoms may absolutely benefit from botanical support.
But I still want to look at the food, fat tolerance, protein tolerance, microbiome, medications, parasites, pancreatic function, nutrient absorption and the pattern of symptoms.
Otherwise we are just using an herbal bottle to cover up information the digestive tract is trying very hard to give us.
Practitioner Herbs Deserve Practitioner-Level Respect
"Natural" does not mean that an herb cannot interact with medication or become inappropriate for a particular dog.
This is especially important with anticoagulants, NSAIDs, steroids, seizure medications, thyroid medication, insulin and other glucose-lowering drugs, cardiac medications, diuretics and immunosuppressive drugs.
Pregnancy, kidney disease, liver disease, surgery and significant chronic illness can also change which herbs make sense.
That is why this public page explains what the products are and where they may fit rather than providing one-size-fits-all canine dosing.
