Archangel Ariel for Dogs: Prayer, Protection and Spiritual Support

I may lose some people here, but if you have followed me for very long, this probably won’t surprise you.

Yes, I talk to angels. More specifically, I talk to Archangel Ariel quite a bit when it comes to my dogs and the animals I work with.

I pray over my own dogs, I pray over yours, and I have done that for years. Sometimes those prayers are connected to illness or a difficult decision, but plenty of times they are simply part of the way I care for an animal. I may pray while I am doing Reiki, while I am sitting quietly with a dog, before I start looking more deeply at a case, or when I have that feeling that there is something I am supposed to notice that I haven’t quite put my finger on yet.

See your vet for a diagnosis and then you and I can collaborate on a custom strategy for your dog's health.

Prayer and spiritual support do not replace veterinary diagnostics, medicine, nutrition or any of the other practical tools I use. I don’t see them as competing with those things at all. For me, they are simply another part of caring for the whole dog, because after all these years with animals, I cannot separate the physical animal from the emotional, energetic and spiritual one.

Why I Call on Archangel Ariel for My Dogs

Archangel Ariel is often associated with animals, nature, protection and the natural world, so it probably isn’t difficult to understand why I feel such a connection to her. Her name is commonly translated as “Lion of God,” and she has long been connected in spiritual traditions with caring for animals and the earth.

I’m not going to try to convince you that you need to believe exactly what I believe. You may think of this as prayer. You may call it intention, intuition, energy or simply the deep connection we develop with our animals. I am perfectly comfortable leaving room for all of that.

What I know is that there have been countless times when I have asked for help, guidance or protection around an animal, and doing so has helped me become quieter, more observant and more open to what I may need to see.

Sometimes the answer is spiritual. Sometimes the answer turns out to be very practical.

It may be the thought that keeps nudging me to look at a lab value again, ask another question about food, pay attention to a change in behavior or encourage someone to go back to the veterinarian instead of waiting another day. I don’t need every answer to arrive wrapped in pink light with a feather falling dramatically from the sky. Sometimes guidance looks remarkably like remembering the right question at exactly the right time.

I Ask Ariel to Stay With My Dogs When I Travel

This is probably one of the most personal ways I call on her.

When I travel and I am away from my dogs, I talk to them. I have always believed our connection with our animals extends well beyond whether we happen to be sitting in the same room, and my work with animal communication has only strengthened that belief.

There have been many times when I have asked Archangel Ariel to stay with my dogs while I am gone and, especially, to help me deliver a message to them.

Tell them I love them. Tell them I’m okay. Tell them I am coming home. Remind them that they are safe and cared for even though I am not physically there.

Could I simply be saying those things for my own peace of mind? Maybe. I’m not terribly concerned with proving it one way or the other.

There are parts of our relationships with animals that do not fit neatly into something measurable, and I’m comfortable with that. I have spent enough years paying attention to dogs to know that I don’t need to understand every mechanism before I can respect the experience.

And frankly, dog moms know what it is like to be three states away while approximately 14 percent of your brain remains at home wondering whether somebody remembered exactly how your dog likes the blanket arranged.

Calling on Ariel When a Dog Is Sick

When one of my dogs is sick, my prayers have changed over the years.

Of course I still want the thing every dog mom wants: fix it. Make the tumor disappear. Stop the seizures. Make the bloodwork normal. Give me more time.

There is nothing wrong with asking for healing. Love makes us want the outcome we want, and sometimes we want it desperately.

But I have learned to ask for something else too.

I ask for clarity.

I may ask Ariel to help me see what I am missing, guide me toward the right person, help me recognize what my dog needs or help me know whether it is time to keep searching versus time to stop pushing.

That is often a much harder prayer because it leaves room for an answer that may not be the one I was hoping to receive.

When we love an animal deeply, it is very easy for fear to become louder than intuition. We start Googling at 2 a.m., ordering another supplement, changing three things at once and looking everywhere for something that will give us certainty. Sometimes one of the most valuable things I can do is become quiet enough to ask a better question.

Not simply, How do I make this go away?

But, What does this dog need from me right now?

Those are not always the same question.

How to Invite Archangel Ariel to Help With Your Pet

You do not need an elaborate ceremony to call on Ariel. There is no magic combination of candles, crystals or carefully memorized words that determines whether you are doing it correctly.

You can simply speak her name and ask.

Sit quietly with your dog if that feels natural. Place a hand on them if they enjoy being touched, take a few slow breaths and say something in your own words. You might ask Ariel to protect your dog, surround them with peace, guide the people caring for them and help you recognize what they need.

If having something physical helps you settle into that space, you can certainly create a small ritual around it. Some people light a candle, hold rose quartz or green aventurine, sit outdoors, offer Reiki or visualize a soft pink, gold or green light surrounding their dog. For me, essential oils can sometimes be part of my own grounding and prayer practice as well, although anything used around an animal still needs to be appropriate for that individual dog.

The point isn’t the prop.

The point is becoming present.

Once you ask, give yourself a little room to listen instead of immediately filling the silence with another question.

What Does a Sign From Archangel Ariel Look Like?

This is where I think people can get themselves tied in knots because they expect something enormous to happen.

Could you notice a feather, butterfly, animal encounter or another little moment in nature that feels meaningful to you? Sure. Ariel is strongly associated with nature, and many people connect those experiences with her presence.

But I don’t think every cardinal that lands on the fence needs to be assigned a job.

Sometimes the sign is simply a sense of peace you didn’t have five minutes earlier. Sometimes someone calls with exactly the information you needed. Maybe you suddenly think of a question for the veterinarian, remember a change in your dog’s appetite or realize that a pattern you had dismissed has actually been happening for weeks.

I think we can get so busy waiting for the supernatural that we overlook the very ordinary ways guidance can show up.

One of the things my work with Reiki, animal communication and intuition has taught me is to pay attention without trying to force meaning onto everything. There is a big difference between being open and trying to turn every event into a coded message from the universe.

Spiritual Care Still Includes Doing the Work

I think this point is especially important because “holistic” can sometimes get interpreted as avoiding conventional medicine or believing that positive thoughts will fix everything.

That is not how I practice.

If your dog needs diagnostics, get the diagnostics. If your dog needs pain control, stabilization, surgery or emergency care, those things belong in the conversation. If lab work is changing, I want to see the lab work. If a dog is not eating, losing weight, vomiting, having neurological symptoms or showing another significant change, prayer should not become the reason we delay appropriate care.

What spiritual support can do is help us stay connected to the animal inside all of that medical information.

A diagnosis can become so consuming that suddenly every conversation is about medications, calories, blood values, bowel movements and appointments. Those things absolutely need our attention, but your dog is still your dog. They still need connection, familiar routines, comfort, laughter, sniffing the grass and whatever ridiculous thing makes them light up.

Sometimes prayer helps bring me back to that.

I Also Call on Ariel When Nothing Is Wrong

I don’t only ask for help when I am scared.

There are mornings when I look around at my dogs and simply say thank you.

Thank you for another day with them. Thank you for allowing me to notice something early. Thank you for the dogs who came before them and taught me things I could never have learned from a class. Thank you for the animals who have crossed my path professionally and somehow changed the way I think about the next one.

I think gratitude is one of the most overlooked parts of spiritual practice with animals because we tend to reach for prayer when something hurts.

There is something pretty powerful about calling on Ariel when everything is fine too.

If This Is Too Woo-Woo for You

That’s okay.

You can think I’m completely nuts on this one and still come to me to talk about your dog’s nutrition.

I can discuss calcium-to-phosphorus ratios, microbiome health, liver enzymes and fatty acids in one conversation and talk about Reiki, intuition and angels in the next without experiencing any sort of existential crisis over the combination.

They are simply different ways I have learned to look at the same dog.

The science helps me understand the body. Nutrition gives us practical tools. Veterinary diagnostics help us identify disease and monitor change. My experience helps me recognize patterns and ask better questions. Intuition sometimes tells me where I need to look more closely.

And prayer reminds me that I am not in control of everything.

That may actually be the most important lesson animals keep teaching me.

A Simple Prayer for Your Dog

I would never pretend to speak for Archangel Ariel, but if you want to invite her into the care of your dog and you aren’t sure what to say, keep it simple:

Archangel Ariel, please stay close to this dog I love. Help protect them, comfort them and guide the people caring for them. Help me recognize what they need and give me the wisdom to make good decisions on their behalf. Surround them with peace, and help me stay open to whatever I am meant to understand.

Then spend a few quiet minutes with your dog.

You do not have to make anything happen.

Just be there.

For me, that is often where the connection begins.
