Benefits of CBD for Pets
There is currently a lot of controversy around using CBD for pets. In short, the FDA has not approved it. But that isn’t stopping many companies from continuing to market CBD for pets.
Using CBD for pet health problems is based on the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS). The goal of the ECS is to achieve and maintain the balance of all processes in the body.
There are many reasons and opportunities to use CBD for Pets. Some of the possible benefits:
chronic pain & joint relief
anxiety relief
seizures severity & frequency reduction
reduced inflammation
allergy relief
cushings disease
the fight against cancer
autoimmune disease support
and supporting neurological conditions.
CBD For Your Pet’s Behavior
I am more than happy to use a product like CBD or other essential oils to help a dog take the edge off their anxiety or emotional imprints when we are working through Separation anxiety, Fear, Car Rides, Stranger Danger or Trauma. But do not rely solely on medicating the dog — let’s get to the root of emotional issues and solve the problem. In these cases, CBD is a tool, an aid not the solution.
Choose The Best CBD
Like all products — quality matters. Some are better than others. Some are down-right terrible products trying to tap into the ever-so-profitable big business. Buyer beware, all CBD products are not the same. Marketing isn’t always “truth-filled”. Some products will be a waste of money and you’ll see no results.
I am a big fan of CBD for my dog and myself. I have seen amazing results with my friends, family, and clients . In fact, my dog(s) and I often share the same bottle.
How Much CBD Should I Give My Pet
Amounts will vary depending on if you have a cat, dog, horse or other animal and the reason you may be using CBD. Happy to chat with you about your goals and help you with the right strategy for your individual pet.
It’s important to understand that typically the mg listed on the bottle are for the whole bottle, not the amount per dose. Therefore you’ll give portions of a dropper for pets relative to the suggested human dosage based on the weight of your pet. Dosing is explained in this blog.
Generally 2mg - 10mg per 10 pounds per dose based on the severity of the issue and tolerance of the individual.
It is always recommended to choose a high-quality product, begin with low & slow usage, monitor your pet, and refine your usage as needed.
Start at a low dose and adjust as needed to meet your pet’s needs.
Many people use CBD oil (liquid) sublingually. This means applying under the tongue or along the gum line. With your dog, simply use "drops" or partial droppers instead of full doses of the higher mg. You may also apply the liquid topically.
Alternative CBD Products
I am a huge fan of the CBD Muscle rub, CBD Calm Roller, and CBD Soothe Roller from Nature’s Ultra. Each of these is for topical use. And they can be used easily with pets and family members. I also find tremendous benefits in using essential oils, herbs or homeopathy for relief in our pets as well. I can help you with a complete solution.
