Making a Temporary Meal
We’ve all done it. Run Out Of Food!
But don’t worry — you can still feed your dog for a few days and not worry!
If its only a day or two, my go to is:
Option For A 50# Dog:
1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of raw beef (80/20) (or protein of choice)
1/4 cup blanched or steamed veggies chopped (broccoli, squash, cabbage, beets, cauliflower, spinach, collard or mustard greens, Brussels sprouts, or California Medley) — too much veg and you may get gas :-)
1 TBSP cooked chopped beef liver (liver of choice) ~ OR ~ some of my dehydrated beef liver treats (yes, I even save the dust)
1 TBSP Sauerkraut or Kefir or greek yogurt1/2 can of sardines
No, it's not perfectly balanced, But in 1-2 days the wheels will not fall off the but nutritionally. They will still get protein, fat, some fiber, some vitamins/minerals, some amino acids, some enzymes & probiotics.
If going to be several days before the delivery, or if I was traveling and simply forgot my mix:
I will add a tablespoon or two of cooked oats or sweet potato just to have some extra filling/fiber.
I sub out my water for Bone Broth (low-sodium or homemade) to add a little extra vitamin/mineral profile & immune boosting oomph.
Still not perfectly balanced, but they won't go hungry and get a good healthy meal until my Volhard shows up and we get back on track.
If your dog has a health issue, then other adjustments may be necessary.
Adjust as needed based on your dog’s weight.
