Choosing Healthy Training Treats
We all want to give our pets a special treat from time to time. ! Others of us are also trying to do obedience or reactivity training, and we need some high-value food rewards for a job well done. These can require many pieces of treat throughout the training session and the day. Your pieces should be SMALL!!!
Consider using a healthy single ingredient treat like dehydrated organ meats, or even freeze-dried “food” and break the pieces into tiny pieces for your treat pouch. This keeps your dog from getting “junk food” during training, and is less messy for those of us he feed raw or homecooked foods that don’t do well in a treat pouch
Here are a few options

Keep in mind some treats are truly special and not every day. The extremely high-value rewards like fresh meat, meatballs, frozen kongs, etc. are to be used in special circumstances only – like stranger danger training, visitor arrivals, disengagement from reactivity, Separation Anxiety, etc.
For the times you open the fridge and Fido is standing there – think blueberries, carrots, apple bits, watermelon, etc.
Remember no milk bones, no pupperonies, no bacon strips, etc.
Even Zukes and other similar products should be used on a very limited basis.
