How to Make A Homeopathic Tincture

The Easy Way To Prepare A Homeopathic Tincture

A homeopathic tincture is a potent homeopathic liquid prepared from the actual substance from which it is to derive its healing action through energy rather than chemicals. It is used for storing and dosing homeopathic remedies. The tincture is prepared by repetitive dilution and succussion (potentization) of the natural substance in distilled water, glycerin or alcohol.

What is a tincture?

We often see homeopathic remedies in the form of a sugar pellet. The remedy is actually on the surface of the pellet and not the pellet itself. This is why we suggest not touching the pellets as you administer them to your dog or others.

A homeopathic tincture is a concentrated liquid extract of a plant- or animal-based substance, made by soaking the material in alcohol, glycerin, or vinegar These are generally created by professionals for distribution and sales. For our purposes, we will discuss making a tincture out of the pellets.

Tinctures are a great way to prepare and store homeopathic remedies. They are easy to prepare, easy to dose, and unlikely to be contaminated. They are also unlikely to cause any side effects, making them a safe and discreet way to take homeopathic remedies. However, always consult your wellness practitioner before taking any homeopathic remedy.

A benefit of liquid tincture allows us to adjust dosage through a process called succussion. That is the act of shaking the bottled remedy multiple times to potentize the remedy further. Thus each dose given works a slightly deeper level within the body. And we use only what is needed to achieve the desired result.

The benefits of tinctures for dogs

A key benefit of liquid tincture for your dog is the ease of application. Just a few drops directly added to their mouth make it quickly absorbed and nothing they can spit out, smell, or taste.

How to make a Homeopathic Tincture from a Pellet

Individual Dosage for immediate use:

After selecting the remedy that most closely matches your dog’s symptoms

Drop 1 pellet into 1/4 cup of water and stir until the pellet dissolves.

Once dissolved, stir the liquid with a spoon for 5 seconds (succession)

Bottling a Homeopathic Remedy for continued use:

In a 30ml bottle, add 20ml of water (approximately 2/3 of the bottle)

Add 1 pellet and swirl the bottle until the pellet is dissolved.

Before each dosing, succuss the bottle (hit the bottom firmly with your palm) 5 times.

Store your homeopathic remedy in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. (Alchohol-based tinctures will last longer)

Dosing Homeopathic Remedies:

Acute Dosing: It has been said that every being, every mammal can take the same dose. Doses of homeopathic remedies are not based on weight, species, age, or other common factors. It’s an energetic remedy. Thus we suggest starting low with approximately 1/4 dropper full (5-6 drops of tincture), and repeating within 1/2 hour for up to 2 hours until relief is seen.

If no relief is received it may be necessary to try another remedy.

Chronic Dosing:

For long-term use of homeopathic remedies, it’s best to have consulted with a homeopathic expert or homeopathic veterinarian to be sure that you have properly identified the symptoms and selected the best remedy for your dog’s needs. Thus you will be instructed on the frequency of use for your individual dog’s needs based on remedy selection.

Administration Notes:

Administration of Homeopathic remedies should generally be at least 30 minutes before or after food intake. And and at least 30-60 minutes before or after use of essential oils or other remedies that may negate the homeopathic remedy. Multiple modalities can coexist in your wellness plan, just not simultaneous application.
